BabyData is operated by Best Business Loans Ltd (company number 16833937). We are an independent UK baby names and pregnancy information service, funded by display advertising. This page sets out, in plain terms, how we use AI, how we check facts, how we fix mistakes, how to complain, and how we look after your data. Every one of our published pages carries a named editor and a last-reviewed date.
How we use AI
We use modern AI tools to help with research and first drafts, the same way we use a spellchecker or a spreadsheet. They make us faster. They do not make our decisions and they do not have the final word.
- A named human reviews and signs off every published page. AI never publishes on its own.
- Our content is general information only. It is not professional, medical, financial or legal advice. Pregnancy content is informational only and is reviewed against NHS and gov.uk guidance; always speak to your midwife, GP or NHS 111 about a specific concern.
- Our tools give estimates, not advice. A due date, ovulation window or maternity-pay figure is an estimate based on a published rule, shown alongside the official source, and is not a substitute for professional guidance.
- We do not make automated decisions about you. We do not profile visitors and nothing on this site decides anything about you. We do not collect your details or run lead forms.
- We do not publish fabricated statistics. Figures are taken from primary sources such as the ONS, NHS or gov.uk, or they are left out. We do not invent numbers, reviews or testimonials.
Our use of AI is guided by UK data protection law and the ICO's guidance on AI and automated decision-making. Because we make no automated decisions about people, and a person reviews everything before it is published, we stay well inside the direction of AI regulation such as the EU AI Act.
Named authorship and editorial standards
Every page is written or reviewed by a named person and dated. The named editor of BabyData is Oliver Mackman, accountable for our editorial standards, sourcing and corrections. Display advertising never influences what we publish, and any sponsored material would be labelled as such with the sponsor named. The full detail is in our editorial policy, and you can see the people behind the content on our editorial team page.
Fact-checking and sources
Before a page goes live, factual claims are checked against primary sources, not other websites. In practice that means:
- Baby names and birth data taken from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), National Records of Scotland and NISRA.
- Pregnancy and health context checked against NHS guidance.
- Statutory pay and parental-leave rules taken from gov.uk.
- Every tool shows its working: the exact rule it uses and the official UK source behind the number.
Corrections
If something is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Email hello@babydata.co.uk with the page address and what is incorrect. We respond within two working days. Material corrections are made and noted on the page so the change is visible.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with our service, we want to hear about it. Email hello@babydata.co.uk or write to Best Business Loans Ltd, Cust Hall, Toppesfield, Halstead, Essex, CO9 4EB, and please include your name, how to reach you, and what went wrong.
We acknowledge every complaint within five working days and aim to give a full response within four weeks. If your complaint is about your personal data and you are not happy with our response, you can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Your data
BabyData does not collect your personal details, has no sign-up and runs no lead forms. Our tools run in your browser and do not send your inputs to us. We show display advertising, which sets cookies, and we use privacy-respecting analytics. What is set, why, and how to control it is set out in our privacy policy and cookie policy. We are registered with the ICO under reference ZC151816.
